Thomas, doubting Thomas. The pessimist always seeing the worst and expecting the worst. Walking in defeat mixed with commitment.

Yes, commitment. Thomas stayed with Jesus even thought he struggled with doubt. We don’t know if this phase “let us go with him and die with him” was said in sarcasm or commitment. But either way, the outcome was the same. God was greater than Thomas’s pessimism. Jesus looked past Thomas’s doubt and fear.

They had good reason to fear for their lives… As stated here, the Jews in that place had already sought to kill Jesus. The danger was very real. Whether Thomas was sarcastic or committed, he still went.

Even if you have doubts, go. Sometimes our faith lacks, sometimes our attitude is negative. In those times, stick with Jesus anyway. You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to stay with the One who is.

To often we think we will block God. “If we are not perfect, He can’t move.” How foolish! Are we greater than God? Do we really think that our doubts can block the voice that spoke the universe into existence? Of course not. God will do what God will do.

Our job is to follow, with all our doubts and imperfections. Just as we are. Go. Trust that God is greater than your faults. Don’t wait till you know more, are more mature, are more trained, are more safe. No… Just go with Jesus today.

Thomas went, expecting to die.

Will you go where God leads, no matter what?
